CWD Calorimeter Series – Continuous Gas Quality and Calorific Value Measurement
Direct measurement of Wobbe Index, density, and heating value for industrial gas control
Gas quality defines performance, safety, and efficiency — especially in power generation, process combustion, and biogas upgrading.
The CWD Series from Union Instruments provides real-time, direct calorimetry for determining gas parameters such as Wobbe Index, specific density, and heating or combustion value.
CWD analyzers are trusted wherever operators require accurate, fast, and reliable insight into changing gas compositions — from biogas and syngas to natural gas and refinery applications.

Technology and Function
The CWD (Calorimetry, Wobbe-Index, Density) series determines gas quality parameters by directly measuring:
- Wobbe Index (WI)
- Specific Density
- Heating and Combustion Values
From these measured parameters, the analyzer calculates the combustion air requirement (CARI) and energy quantity. When combined with additional gas analysis components, the CWD can also determine the full air requirement factor from gas composition.
The measurement principle detects all combustible gas components, allowing the system to respond immediately to changing gas streams — an essential advantage for modern energy and process industries.
Your Benefits
- Continuous, direct measurement of all relevant gas quality parameters
- Accurate and stable operation even with fluctuating gas compositions
