Technology & System Design

Proven measurement technology engineered for marine environments

ShipCEMS is built as a complete marine emission monitoring system – combining analyser technology, heated sample handling and intelligent control in a compact, engine-room-ready configuration.

The system is designed for continuous operation in demanding marine conditions, ensuring stable and representative measurement of exhaust gas emissions.

Reliable exhaust gas measurement – from stack to analyser

Marine exhaust gas contains moisture, soot and reactive components. To ensure accurate measurement, ShipCEMS uses a fully heated sample handling system.

The system architecture includes:

  • Heated sample probe installed in the exhaust duct
  • Heated sample line to prevent condensation
  • Marine-grade sample conditioning unit
  • Central analyser cabinet
  • Automatic stream switching for multiple exhaust lines
  • Integrated calibration gas functionality

By maintaining temperature throughout the sampling process, the system ensures that the gas composition reaching the analyser reflects the true exhaust conditions.

Industry-standard infrared measurement principle

ShipCEMS is based on proven non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) measurement technology – widely used for continuous gas monitoring in demanding applications.

The system enables accurate measurement of:

  • SO₂
  • CO₂
  • SO₂/CO₂ ratio
  • NOx – optional
  • O₂ – optional
  • Other gases on request

The measurement principle ensures stable long-term performance with minimal drift when properly maintained and calibrated.

One analyser – multiple exhaust lines

For vessels with multiple exhaust stacks or combustion processes, ShipCEMS can monitor several sampling points using a single analyser cabinet.

This design offers:

  • Reduced installation footprint
  • Lower equipment cost
  • Simplified maintenance
  • Automatic stream switching
  • Centralized data logging

Only one analyser cabinet is required, while sample conditioning systems are installed per exhaust line.

Designed for safe and robust marine installation

All components are selected and configured for operation in marine engine room environments.

The system supports:

  • Indoor installation with IP44 protection
  • Outdoor installation with IP55 protection
  • 230 / 110 VAC power supply
  • Digital communication outputs
  • Optional Modbus or Profibus integration

Compact cabinet design allows flexible placement onboard.
